KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY

Dr May has wide experience with the various knee replacement techniques which have evolved over many years.

Many models have been burdened by non anatomic designs which have limited function and durability.

With these models, activities post surgery were limited and longevity of the prosthesis survival often limited.

For the past twenty years Dr May has been involved in developments and upgrading with what has become known as "the High Performance Knee".

Dr May visited and worked with Dr David Blaha in Newark where the Medial Pivot Knee was developed and produced.

Over the last 20 years this Knee has produced outstanding functional and durable results, with a now 98.8% survival at twenty years as well as a high degree of patient satisfaction.

KNEE ARTHROSCOPY

This minimally invasive surgery (sometimes called Keyhole Surgery) using miniature instruments allows a wide range of knee surgeries to be performed as day surgery with rapid recovery compared to other techniques.

Acute knee injuries such as ligament tears, cartilage tears and joint surface damage can be treated with this "Keyhole Surgery" as day case surgery at the Sports Science Day Hospital.

Amelioration of long standing knee problems and pain can also be achieved arthroscopically with "smoothing" of worn surfaces using "laser" like instrumentation.

Introduction of marrow stem cells to defects in the joint surfaces is another minimally invasive arthroscopic technique which can slow down or halt the advance of degenerate changes in the knee surfaces.
